Deca-Durabolin dosing requires more precision than most anabolic steroids. Its long ester, progestogenic activity, and depth of HPG suppression mean that errors in cycle design have consequences that are slow to resolve. This guide provides the correct dosage ranges, proven cycle structures, and the essential supporting compounds and protocols every UK user needs.

If you haven't already read our complete Deca-Durabolin guide, start there — understanding the mechanism is essential before approaching dosing.

Deca-Durabolin Dosage: The Correct Range

Application Weekly Dose Injection Frequency
Joint support only 100–200 mg/week Once weekly
Beginner bulking 200–300 mg/week Once or twice weekly
Intermediate bulking 300–400 mg/week Twice weekly
Advanced bulking 400–600 mg/week Twice weekly

Higher doses beyond 600 mg/week produce diminishing anabolic returns while exponentially increasing prolactin, progesterone, and cardiovascular risk. Most experienced coaches — including at professional bodybuilding level — find 400 mg/week the practical ceiling for most users.

The Critical Rule: Testosterone:Deca Ratio

This is the most important dosing principle for any Deca cycle. Testosterone must always be run at a higher dose than nandrolone. The standard recommendation is a minimum 2:1 testosterone to nandrolone ratio (e.g., 500 mg testosterone for every 250 mg Deca).

Running more nandrolone than testosterone allows nandrolone's progestogenic and partial oestrogenic activity to dominate the hormonal environment, creating the conditions for erectile dysfunction, prolactin-related side effects, and severe sexual dysfunction (“Deca Dick”). See our testosterone enanthate vs cypionate guide for choosing the right testosterone base.

Beginner Deca-Durabolin Cycle

Never use Deca as your first-ever steroid cycle. A prior testosterone-only cycle is required. First Deca cycle:

Wait 3 weeks after the last Deca injection before starting PCT to allow nandrolone decanoate to clear sufficiently. See when to start PCT for full compound-by-compound timing guidance.

Intermediate Deca Cycle (Classic Test + Deca Bulk)

  • Weeks 1–16: Testosterone Enanthate 600 mg/week
  • Weeks 1–14: Deca-Durabolin 400 mg/week
  • Weeks 1–16: Arimidex 0.5 mg EOD (for oestrogen control from testosterone)
  • Weeks 1–16: Cabergoline 0.25 mg twice weekly (for prolactin management)
  • Weeks 16–19: HCG 500 IU EOD
  • Weeks 19–25: PCT: Nolvadex 20 mg/day for 6 weeks

Managing Prolactin: The Cabergoline Protocol

Nandrolone's progestogenic activity stimulates prolactin secretion. Elevated prolactin causes sexual dysfunction, nipple sensitivity, and can contribute to gynecomastia even without high oestrogen. Cabergoline (0.25 mg twice weekly) is the standard prolactin management tool for any Deca cycle. Check prolactin levels mid-cycle — if significantly elevated, increase cabergoline dose to 0.5 mg twice weekly.

Deca-Durabolin for Joint Support Only

Many experienced UK athletes use low-dose nandrolone (100–200 mg/week) alongside their primary cycle solely for joint protection — particularly when running compounds like Winstrol that worsen connective tissue health. At these doses, anabolic effects are minimal but joint benefit is meaningful. Full testosterone base, cabergoline, and PCT requirements still apply.

Injection Protocol

Deca-Durabolin is an oil-based injectable. It is well tolerated at most injection sites. If you are new to self-injection, read our complete injection safety guide before your first administration. Twice-weekly injections produce more stable blood levels than single weekly injections for most users.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Deca to start working?

Due to the long decanoate ester, meaningful anabolic effects from Deca typically become noticeable at 4–6 weeks. This is why Deca cycles are generally 12–16 weeks — shorter cycles do not allow sufficient time to experience full benefit.

Does Deca need an aromatase inhibitor?

Nandrolone aromatises to oestrogen at approximately 20% the rate of testosterone. At typical Deca doses run alongside testosterone, the testosterone's aromatisation drives oestrogen management requirements. Arimidex or Aromasin is typically required when significant testosterone is also being used. Deca alone requires cabergoline for prolactin more than an AI for oestrogen.

Can you run Deca year-round?

No. The depth of HPG suppression and the cardiovascular burden of long-term nandrolone use make year-round use inadvisable. Standard off-time should equal at least cycle time.

Medical Disclaimer: Deca-Durabolin significantly suppresses natural hormone production. Blood monitoring throughout any cycle is essential. Consult a clinician and review our harm reduction guide.
